Udemy? How to Make Money with Udemy

What is Udemy?

Udemy is an international marketplace for teaching and learning online. It is the brainchild of Erin Bali, a self-taught International Math Olympiad, from Turkey. He started Udemy to make quality education accessible so that others can change their lives like he did.

It is a platform where students are mastering new skills and achieving their goals by learning from an extensive library of over 42,000 courses.

Who are the Teachers on Udemy?

Udemy provides a wide array of classes from teachers and people who are experts in their fields. They launched several courses in 2016 from some well-known names with various talents and backgrounds. Some names that joined the Udemy platform that you might recognize are, the New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, behavioral economics and decision making expert Dan Ariely, and the author of Eat, Pray, Love Elizabeth Gilbert. But, you don’t have to have top notch credentials to teach on Udemy.

Who are the Students Using Udemy?

The great thing about Udemy is that anyone can join and reap the rewards of education, without the university bill! As long as you have a computer, the internet, and an email address you can take classes. Some are free and some are paid. The next question is what you really want to know about.

How Can I Make Money with Udemy?

Are you an expert at basket weaving? You can teach a class. Are you a photographer? Develop a course! Basically, if you have a skill that is worth something to others, you can teach it on Udemy. You don’t have to quit your day job, either. You can teach 24/7, whenever you want. You can make some good moolah too!

Your Udemy course can be free or paid. If you would like to charge for your courses, the first step is to fill out the Premium Instructor application. You can charge between $15 to $200, in increments of 5. You can change the price anytime, but you can’t change from free to paid once you’ve decided.

Don’t Want To Build a Course?

Don’t worry if you don’t want to teach, there are other ways to make money with Udemy! Affiliate Marketing! Take a look, click on the pictures to see an example!

  1. This sounds like an amazing oppurtunity!
Thank your for your informative review on umedy, I’ve heard of it, but haven’t looked into it properly until now, and it was definitely worth it!

  2. Great article. I just recently discovered Udemy, and I’m seriously considering taking a couple courses. It’s just one thing

How can you tell which courses are worth your time and money?

There were some that were free and others for $200. But, as far as I’m concerned, just because you’re getting charged $200, doesn’t mean you’re getting the BEST course. Or does it? I saw TONS of reviews, but unsure of which ones to trust

    1. Noody,
There is a brief description of the courses, and you will have to do some research. The first thing I do is see if that person has a free class. Then I try to research their name. After that, I look at their reviews to see how they rank.Good question.

  3. Hi Ed! I had no idea you can be an affiliate of Udemy. Definitely great to know! I’m planning on creating my own course so I’m going to take a look into your suggestion and market my course with Udemy.

    Thanks for this informative article!

  4. This is a good informative article on Udemy. I have heard of it before but never really knew what they were all about. I like that you can either make money by doing some form of teaching, that sounds like something I would be interested in.

It is also nice that you can make money in it via affiliate marketing. I think that is a nice balance to the teaching make money part. Though affiliate marketing, I assume, would be the more lucrative aspect, like most affiliate marketing the making money part is a longer term investment, where the teaching aspect is short term.

I will have to give this Udemy a look at another way for me to make money online from the comfort of my home. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    1. Robert,

The good thing about the internet is that if you make a product that is evergreen, you can make passive income from it for a long time. So if you make a course, as a teacher, it could pay off forever. The affiliate marketing, also can.

  5. Great post! Learned a new way to earn some extra money! I’m starting to learn to create tutorial video recently. I think this is a great opportunity that I can get some extra income while I’m learning. Awesome!

  6. If you did this on your phone it is very good. The only thing I would change is I would have the links open in a new tab, so the viewers do not have to leave your site. Keep up the good work.

  7. Hello and thanks for sharing, this the first that I have ever heard of this system but it seems to be really great. So amazing of the many ways that you can make money online. Thanks again.
